Curio.ca Renewal 2022-2023

The BC ELN licence for Curio.ca, the streaming audio and video product from CBC and Radio-Canada is up for renewal. There has been no increase in per-FTE pricing from 2021/2022. Pricing may vary based on updated FTEs.

Institutions can also opt to add the following streaming news products at an additional cost: L'Actualité en revue (French), News in Review (English), National Geographic (English/French), and the BBC Channel (English/French). Each of the five products needs its own subscription. A library must subscribe to the base Curio.ca in order to add another component. 



Updates: 

July 2022: The CBC launched its new platform for Curio in September 2021. The old platform will be deactivated July1, 2022. Here are some instructions from the CBC:

If you ever receive questions about the redirecting URL for Proxy. This is the information you can share with your members:

The proxy URL should continue to work after the removal of the former platform.

To ensure that you have an up-to-date catalogue, we strongly recommend that you export MARC records from the new Curio platform since no new content has been added on the old platform since last September.

To RENEW your current subscription, no response is required. To JOIN, CHANGE OPTIONS, or CANCEL a subscription, libraries should contact BC ELN by the deadline.

Additional Information

Curio’s catalogue is fairly dynamic and content is added on a weekly basis, and from time to time they lose rights to certain assets, principally acquisitions.

To ensure an up-to-date Curio catalogue, it is recommend downloading Curio’s MARC records on a regular basis. The catalogue is updated every day and many libraries download our records every 2 to 3 weeks. Curio offers MARC records for created, modified and deleted assets. More complete information is available in the Help Center, both here and here.

In addition, where applicable, the end-of-rights date for any given asset appears in field 541 of our MARC records.
