Unique Title Comparisons vs. Individual Institutional CRKN Subscriptions

During negotiations for the 2023 URB, several partner libraries requested an analysis of the overlap between Academic Search and Business Source vs. their various journal packages subscriptions from CRKN. As part of the 2026 negotiations, BC ELN again requested these individual institutional analyses for institutions that indicated that it would be useful to them via the URB Participation and Feedback Survey.

This information is summarized in the table below, with detailed spreadsheets available for download at the bottom of the page. The spreadsheets of unique titles are provided by EBSCO, by comparing their product title lists to the publicly-available lists of CRKN packages at https://www.crkn-rcdr.ca/en/kbart-lists. Note that EBSCO's count includes academic journals, magazines, and trade publications. Spreadsheets are available for download at the bottom of this section.

If your institution is interested in a comparison, please contact the the URB Team.

EBSCO Pricing Impacts for Non-Subscribers

All BC ELN partner libraries previously received discounts on various EBSCO products. This is because of the overlap between Academic Search/Business Source and these products, and EBSCO not charging twice for the same content. These discounts also apply to resources licensed through eHLbc and some licenses available through COPPUL. Non-COPPUL sites may also wish to check this tab for products they may be licensing through EBSCO directly.

Libraries that do not subscribe to Academic Search and Business Source will see a higher price for these products, due to the reduction of discounting.

A version of the spreadsheet showing pricing impacts was shared during the 2024-27 URB negotiations. BC ELN has confirmed that pricing impacts will remain the same for 2027-2030; the updated spreadsheet showing these impacts can be downloaded below.
