Vendor Survey: GenAI in BC ELN Resources

Background

By request of the BC ELN Steering Committee, BC ELN surveyed vendor partners in Spring 2026 to clarify how generative AI is being used across their products and services licensed through BC ELN/eHLbc direct or Consortia Canada deals. The survey aimed to find out what generative AI components exist in vendor products, whether the use of these components is optional or mandatory, and whether the components are opt-in or enabled by default.

Purpose

The survey results, compiled in a searchable spreadsheet, support BC ELN partner libraries in making informed, evidence-based decisions about products and services.

Approach

Initial Round (conducted February-April 2026):

The first round of the survey asked:

  • what AI components are in development or have been rolled out in vendor platforms and services;

  • which licensors these AI components apply to;

  • for a description of the AI component, where applicable;

  • whether the AI component is optional or mandatory as part of a licensing deal, and for clarification regarding this, where available;

  • whether the AI component is opt-in or enabled by default, and for clarification regarding this where available; and

  • for further information on the AI component, where available.

You can find the full PDF of the initial round of the survey here (click to download).

Second Round (opened September 2026):

BC ELN is currently conducting a second round of the vendor survey. The second round of the survey will close in November 2026. This round carries forward the approach used in the initial round of the survey, with minimal changes to wording. You can find the full PDF of the second round of the survey here (click to download).

Survey Results:

The AI in BC ELN Licensed Resources Spreadsheet presents the results of the initial data collection conducted in February-April 2026. BC ELN staff supplemented and enhanced these initial responses with links to relevant public information pages to improve clarity and usability. BC ELN staff also added notes on more recently released generative AI tools or services and updates and updates to initial responses where available. Because generative AI technologies are evolving rapidly, the spreadsheet includes the initial date of data collection as well as a “last updated” date.

The additional information in the spreadsheet will continue to be revised over time, and the spreadsheet will be updated in December 2026 once the second round of the survey has closed.

Help Us Develop This Evolving Resource

Our intent is that this information will be collectively maintained. We welcome updates, feedback, suggestions, and contributions via the comments tool on this page, or via email at office@bceln.ca; please provide your feedback, suggestions, and comments below! BC ELN staff will update this spreadsheet at regular intervals with new and updated information.

We will continue to develop how this information is presented as we collect more information and as we prepare to launch the new BC ELN website. Furthermore, as this is an initial collection of information and an initial step into this work, we are also interested in hearing from partner libraries about further directions for this work. If you have comments, suggestions, or feedback about the information you would like to see BC ELN collect as part of this work in the future please leave a comment on this page or contact office@bceln.ca .

Vendor-Provided Resources

The below resources were created by vendors to answer common questions about and explain the AI tools they have integrated into their products and services.

Notes

Where possible, the AI in ELN Licensed Resources Spreadsheet lists information about each vendor product, regardless of whether products are accessed via a single platform. Where a vendor platform includes more than one AI component, the platform is instead listed, with a note at the bottom of the spreadsheet denoting what BC ELN-licensed products are available via the platform.

A log in is required to view the spreadsheet and to comment. If you do not know your password, click the Request New Password link on the login page and enter your email address.

Librarians curious about or wanting more information on a particular generative AI component should reach out to the vendor to confirm.
