National Geographic Virtual Library Renewal 2016-2017

Our apologies for the late renewal notice. Clarification from the vendor was needed and so prevented renewal pricing being sent out earlier.

The Gale products are made available to BC ELN partner libraries through a national site license negotiated on behalf of Consortia Canada by The Alberta Library (TAL). The vendor has revised the subscription options and pricing tiers. There has been a -0-2% increase in pricing depending on the collection and tier.

There are four subscription options available this year:

  1. National Geographic Magazine Archive, 1888-1994 Archive (purchase)
  2. National Geographic Magazine Archive (purchase) & Current (subscription)
  3. National Geographic Magazine Archive, Current & People, Animals, and the World (PAW)
  4. National Geographic Archive, Current, PAW & Kids

Current subscribers have the option of continuing with their subscription at the same cost or upgrading to one of the new options.


This license is made available through a national site license negotiated on behalf of Consortia Canada by The Alberta Library (TAL). 


Updates: 

National Geographic is available as a subscription or archive purchase; The National Geographic Magazine Archive, 1888-1994 is available as a subscription or a one time purchase (with annual hosting fees).  The National Geographic Magazine, 1995-Current is available as a subscription only.  Libraries may get either one, or both.  There are four options available as above.

Included is every page and every photograph, all fully searchable through an intuitive interface.  Images, maps, videos and printed content are all included.

National Geographic: People, Animals, and the World

National Geographic: People, Animals, and the World provides unlimited access to digital content that attracts, engages and informs students, educators, researchers and general readers including full-text books, magazines, videos, maps and National Geographic images.

National Geographic Kids

National Geographic Kids includes the complete run of the magazine from 2009 to the present and provides authoritative, age-appropriate digital content suitable for younger students in subjects like English Language Arts, social studies, and science.
