In July 2025 [1], the BC ELN Steering Committee agreed to launch a feasibility study that will provide BC ELN members and key partners with the evidence and analysis needed to determine whether a coordinated approach to shared library service platforms (LSP) is a viable, beneficial, and sustainable option for BC post-secondary institutions. LSPs are cloud-based systems for acquiring and managing library collections, with the ability to handle multiple content formats and procurement workflows within a single interface. A coordinated approach to LSPs has the potential to provide consistent user experiences, reduce duplication of effort, and achieve cost efficiency in the delivery of information services and vendor negotiations.
Current Status: The Leadership Group is organizing funding for a feasibility study by developing a cost-sharing model with suggested contribution amounts for partner libraries based on their FTE. The Feasibility Study Resource Group, currently in the process of being convened, will provide consultation and guidance throughout the feasibility study. Resource group membership will be representative of a broad range of practitioners and library technology experts from different types of partner libraries.
