National Film Board CAMPUS Renewal 2016-2017 [1]
Return to one-year license term: In 2015 and 2016, NFB CAMPUS was a two-year license. It has reverted to a traditional one-year term for 2017.
Rebranding
- “CAMPUS” is now NFB Education.
- Adding new content and increasing functionality (eg. improved chaptering tool); no loss of content
- Learner focused supplementary content centred around critical thinking. Includes bite-sized modular lessons, lesson builder, online workshops for media production, and short-form courses.
New for 2017:
- Domain Authentication: To create a profile, users simply go to one page and enter their institutional email. If the institution has a valid subscription, the user may create a profile. Registration must be confirmed by email before the profile is activated. The domain authentication project has been put on hold pending a solution for institutions that do not issue email addresses to students.
- Student Access: Students can also create profiles, and use NFB video school to create productions or presentations. They can create and share playlists and chapters.
- Single Sign On (SSO) for all users via Facebook and Google.
Other improvements
- Interoperability with any LMS
- Closed Captioning: NFB had a pending initiative to caption over 50% of their back catalogue
- MARC records will be RDA compliant
To RENEW, no response is required from current subscribers as listed above. To CANCEL, libraries should contact BC ELN by the response deadline.
Mid-term joins will be accepted at any time and prorated to the common renewal date.
MARC Records:
Each library is to designate a MARC record contact in their response spreadsheet. This person will be set up with a profile that allows them to download the records at https://www.nfb.ca/education/ [2]
Additional library staff can be set up with access to MARC records. They must first create a user profile. Once the profile is set up, the primary eresource contact at the library can write to Chantale Turgeon (C.Turgeon@nfb.ca [3]) with the user’s name and email address, asking that MARC records are activated for their user profile.
Pricing is now available for the NFB Education (formerly National Film Board CAMPUS) license renewing January 1, 2017.
Pricing has increased 2% over 2016.
