National Film Board CAMPUS Renewal 2016-2017 [1]

November 7, 2016
Updates:

Return to one-year license term: In 2015 and 2016, NFB CAMPUS was a two-year license. It has reverted to a traditional one-year term for 2017.

Rebranding

  • “CAMPUS” is now NFB Education.
  • Adding new content and increasing functionality (eg. improved chaptering tool); no loss of content
  • Learner focused supplementary content centred around critical thinking. Includes bite-sized modular lessons, lesson builder, online workshops for media production, and short-form courses.

New for 2017:

  • Domain Authentication: To create a profile, users simply go to one page and enter their institutional email. If the institution has a valid subscription, the user may create a profile. Registration must be confirmed by email before the profile is activated. The domain authentication project has been put on hold pending a solution for institutions that do not issue email addresses to students.
  • Student Access: Students can also create profiles, and use NFB video school to create productions or presentations. They can create and share playlists and chapters.
  • Single Sign On (SSO) for all users via Facebook and Google.

Other improvements

  • Interoperability with any LMS
  • Closed Captioning: NFB had a pending initiative to caption over 50% of their back catalogue
  • MARC records will be RDA compliant

MARC Records:

Each library is to designate a MARC record contact in their response spreadsheet. This person will be set up with a profile that allows them to download the records at https://www.nfb.ca/education/ [2]

Additional library staff can be set up with access to MARC records. They must first create a user profile. Once the profile is set up, the primary eresource contact at the library can write to Chantale Turgeon (C.Turgeon@nfb.ca [3]) with the user’s name and email address, asking that MARC records are activated for their user profile.
