Primary Search

Primary Search is included free for all BC ELN sites with subscription to Academic Search.

Designed for elementary school libraries, Primary Search is a full-text database providing popular children’s magazines, easy-to-read encyclopedic entries and a vast image collection. Students can learn about a variety of topics, including endangered species, famous musicians, fitness and space exploration.

Primary Search provides students with encyclopedic entries written specifically for kids. In addition, the database includes full-text popular magazines including those from Cricket Media, such as Ladybug and Spider. Other magazines include Highlights, Junior Scholastic and dozens more.

All full-text articles, many available in color PDF, are assigned reading level indicators (Lexiles) to provide educators with an estimate of the result’s reading difficulty and the approximate grade-level reading ability required for comprehension. Lexiles help teachers meet the needs of students with varying reading abilities and interests and allow students to read along at their own pace.

Content includes:

• More than 175,000 full-text articles (many in color PDF) from more than 100 popular children's magazines
• Easy-to-read encyclopedic entries written specifically for kids
• An image collection of more than 1.9 million relevant photos, maps and flags
